The battle for Ithilien has raged on, and the Men of Gondor are still struggling to breach its walls, when Aragorn hears a horn blast in the distance. With this new order Aragorn leads his army up the path to meet the Dúnedain. They find themselves confronted by an army of wild-eyed men dressed in rags who sound their hunting horns with every step. The Men of Gondor know these are not Easterlings, but they can use any help they can get. This chapter begins with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in the forest. They find a ruined house, apparently deserted. Its doors are shattered, but the bulls of the Rohirrim look to be intact. So far they have not found any Easterlings in this region, leaving them to conclude that they came here only recently. Inside one of the rooms they find a girl, who claims she is an Elf-maid who was captured by orcs. They are able to protect her with their swords, giving them hope that they are not far from Ithilien. They finally realize that there is nothing more for them here and decide to move on towards Ithilien. However, they become overjoyed when over the horizon they see a great army coming their way. This is confirmed when the company arrives at Ithilien and see a host of nearly two dozen Easterlings laying siege to the city. Legolas yells out in joy, but Legolas quickly warns Aragorn to wait until he hears where this other army is headed. The company makes their way into the city and find it to be under siege by a huge force of Easterlings. They also encounter a large cavalry force led by Witch-king himself. Beside him rides a large group of white-cloaked warriors. Aragorn and the company hold their ground while the Easterlings advance, but Aragorn secretly sends a message to Rohan asking for help. They wait while the Easterlings clash with the defenders of Ithilien. Aragorn and Legolas decide to take a look at the enemy formation, seeing that they do not seem very organized. They decide that they would rather take out their own commander instead of waiting for the attack to come from an entirely different direction. Aragorn and Gimli watch as many Easterling commanders ride off towards various parts of the battlefield, leaving only Witch-king himself in charge of most of his army. Aragorn quickly steals a horse from one of the Easterlings and rides off towards a tree a good distance away, where he waits to cut down the Easterling commander. Aragorn and his horse arrive back at Legolas, who instructs him to make haste, as the enemy is now approaching from behind them. Aragorn and Gimli run off back towards Ithilien, but they soon hear the sound of many horns. The two manage to reach a tower still standing in this part of Ithilien. They climb their way up into it, which turns out to be empty except for one Elf maiden who is trapped inside with her sister Therese. cfa1e77820
